Kite control is the first necessary skill needed in learning to kitesurf. Our intial kite lessons begin on the beach with Kite control exercises to ensure you are confidental in controling the movement of the kite. Understanding the basic theory, wind direction, and how to move your kite. Kite control ensures you can slow, stop and speed up your kite and riding. Mastering this kite skill before practicing water exercises not only improves your enjoyment of the sport but also the safety of yourself and those surrounding you in and out of the water. Wind conditions can change without notice and having strong kite control skills prevents any unecessary accidents or mishaps, protecting you and your gear. Our kite instructors care about your safety and the quality of the equipment to ensure all students are safe with quality gear.

Once you are confident controlling the kite, our kite instructors at Loving Surf will continue the kite lessons by intergrating water into your kite lesson and ensuring you can maintain kite control while in the water. This step is a playful way to get wet and messy but face any fears if you lose your kite board while riding (or jumping!). Essaouira also can have some gusty strong winds and big waves so learning to kitesurf in Essaouira may have a few extra hours practicing kite control versus a flat and steady wind kite spot. However, the body drag is usually a quick exercise to develop and leads to the most anticipated step of waterstart and riding.

Now comes the fun part, Waterstart and riding the waves! Depending on your learning curve and wave/wind conditions, learning your waterstart can be a bit tricky. But once you master your waterstart, you can jump into riding fast and easy! Once riding you will learn to go downwind, turn or transition on your kiteboard and then learn to ride upwind. Once you have mastered your upwind riding, self rescue and other key safety skills in kitesurfing, you will be able to rent your own kite gear and practice on your own!

There is no final stage of kitesurfing, the watersport is one that continues to challenge the rider, as they progress, travel and try new gear and tricks. Some kitesurf riders on flat waters, others want to learn tricks, jumps and big air. Kitesurfers who enjoy strapless riding aim to ride the waves and enjoy the combination of surfing and kiting.
